Lilian Genevet
Controller Division Offshore
Bourbon Management,
France
Tell us about your position
As Group Controller (with key administrative prerogatives in the Offshore Division), I am responsible, with a team of three, for collecting and processing information sent in from our subsidiaries, in order to prepare management reports for the Executive Committee. We also carry out a very diverse range of studies, often highly confidential, for the Executive Committee – such as the figures for the Horizon 2010 plan.
Wearing my “treasury” hat, I have a team of four who look after, on the one hand, the centralization of payments for all the French companies via our “La Financière” structure, and, on the other hand, our debt management (particularly research and finance negotiations for our shipbuilding program). Also, as I’m crazy about organization, I am the “scriptwriter” for numerous internal operations of restructuring, such as that in the Offshore Division or the creation of Bourbon Supply Investissements for managing the capital expenditure on our vessels in the course of construction.
What do you like most about your job and being with Bourbon?
Mainly it’s the diversity − both in terms of subjects handled and the people − and the macro-economic and global view of the company that I get from my various assignments. I really enjoy being part of a fast-growing group, where a long-term view is matched by investment and which has an excellent image in the financial community. I also like the quality of the human relationships, the close involvement of the directors, and the possibility of making a difference professionally: at BOURBON, every idea is carefully considered!
Careers in the offing
I was sailing with the Bourbon Hera as Chief Engineer when I heard for the first time about the Ulysses project, that's the name of the program that will be installed. I had already used this type of program in other companies, and recognized the effectiveness, so I was interested in participating in the start-up of the whole project and, one thing leading to another, I ended up with a shore-based position.
At BOURBON, my career has taken a new turn: I have been promoted to captain, I earn a better living and I sail modern vessels...
